Paediatric physiotherapy

Paediatric physiotherapy involves the management of babies and children with orthopaedic, neurologicaland developmental problems. It aims to optimize your child’s movement and function or assist in achieving developmental milestones.
Orthopaedic conditions affect the bones and muscles, whereas neurological conditions are problems with the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves. Children with these conditions may have difficulties with their physical function, including mobility, muscle strength, range of movement and balance. Orthopaedic paediatric physiotherapy also includes rehabilitation after injury and surgical interventions.
Children with developmental problems may have difficulty reaching developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are a set of functional skills or age-specific task that most children can do at a certain age range.

For example:

  • Head control

  • Creeping

  • Crawling

  • Sitting

  • Walking & running

Together with your physiotherapist you can check those milestones with and development (progression) chart. Taking you step by step through the development of your child responding with the age of your child.
