Acupuncture is one of the main forms of treatments of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the use of sharp thin needles, that are inserted in the body at very specific (acupuncture) points. But how can this be effective?
Over the last decades studies have shown that stimulating specific acupuncture points results in pain relief by release of endorphines(the body’s own morphine) in our brain. This may explain as well why some patients experience an extremely relaxed feeling during and after an acupuncture session.
One study showed , that while stimulating the point SP(leen)6,frequently chosen for a wide range of disorders such as digestive problems, as well as for insomnia and anxiety, changes could be noticed in 10 areas of the brain including the prefrontal cortex (social behavior, depression, anxiety) and the hippocampus (loss of memory, stress etc). These results show that these conditions can be treated effectively through acupuncture.
Acupuncture is used to alter and adjust the body’s energy flow into healthier patterns, and can be used to treat a wide variety of illnesses and health conditions e.g. acute and chronic pains, smoking addiction, weight loss, low energy, chronic fatique conditions, restless legs, allergies, psycho-emotional disturbances, sleep disturbances, women health issues, gastro-intestinal disorders etc.
